The relationship between biology and sexual orientation is a subject of research. While scientists do not know the exact cause of sexual orientationthey theorize that a combination of genetic, hormonal, and social factors determines it. Biological theories for explaining the causes of sexual orientation are favored by scientists and involve a complex interplay of genetic factors, the early uterine environment and brain structure.

In recent history, there seems to be a fair amount of debate over the cause of a homosexuality. Is a person born gay? Is there some familial or environmental factor responsible?
The machine intelligence tested in the research, which was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and first reported in the Economist, was based on a sample of more than 35, facial images that men and women publicly posted on a US dating website. The data also identified certain trends, including that gay men had narrower jaws, longer noses and larger foreheads than straight men, and that gay women had larger jaws and smaller foreheads compared to straight women. Human judges performed much worse than the algorithm, accurately identifying orientation only 61 per cent of the time for men and 54 per cent for women. When the software reviewed five images per person, it was even more successful — 91 per cent of the time with men and 83 per cent with women.
Facts About Homosexuality and Mental Health. Modern attitudes toward homosexuality have religious, legal, and medical underpinnings. Before the High Middle Ages, homosexual acts appear to have been tolerated or ignored by the Christian church throughout Europe.
All sexual acts are voluntary. A decision to marry is voluntary, just as a decision to engage in homosexual acts is voluntary. The ability to choose based on the outcome of a reasoned decision is what sets man above the level of nature.
Is sexuality purely the result of our biology? Brandon Ambrosino argues that simplistic explanations have ignored the fluid, shape-shifting nature of our desires. You so obviously cannot be gaywas her implication, because this is good sex.
I n a recent Guardian articleSimon Copland argued that it is very unlikely people are born gay or presumably any other sexual orientation. Scientific evidence says otherwise. It points strongly to a biological origin for our sexualities.
Lawrence Mayer and Dr. But, as Mayer and McHugh, a leading psychiatrist, make clear, the science is far from settled. The authors reviewed the findings of hundreds of peer-reviewed studies on gender and sexuality, and their conclusions challenge some of the popular cultural myths that surround questions of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Being born is the ultimate surrender since nobody was ever asked to be born. And while we are at it, did you choose to be left-handed, right-handed, long-legged, round-faced, with glorious wavy hair? Many think that there are only two directions to sexuality so any deviation must be an abomination or at least, a temporary crisis. Many people think that being gay is either a disease or a choice.
