Over the next two years Disney will phase in new family friendly venues. Disney has had numerous complaints from guests who had to trek through the parking lot past the ticketed adult venue to get from one family area to the other. While the night clubs will be closed the following current restaurants and shops will remain open during the transition: Raglan Road, Fuego by Sosa Cigars, Curl by Sammy Duval, Orlando Harley-Davidson as well as other outdoor food and beverage locations.

Walt Disney World Resort announced on June 27 that it will be completely re-imagining the Downtown Disney area, with new shopping, dining and other experiences, including a completely re-imagined Pleasure Island.
To make way for the new offerings, all of the clubs on Pleasure Island closed September 27, Pleasure Island is the night-time entertainment district at Downtown Disney. It consists of themed nightclubs, restaurants and shops.
Some of the information is based on fact or statements put out by Disney, while other information is based on discussions with cast members, guests, and well known insiders on discussion forums. The closing of Pleasure Island was a hotly debated topic within Disney and the fan community.
It officially opened on May 1, In Septemberall of its clubs were closed, but its retail stores and restaurants remained open. The area is now called The Landing and is the middle part of Disney Springs.

The building that housed that Pleasure Island nightclub is now home to Morimoto Asia, a stationary restaurant surrounded by shops, eateries and themed experiences. The process sometimes stalled but eventually landed where Walt Disney World executives aimed — a place with more shopping and dining options. Michael Eisner jumped right into his new position and started strategizing ways to make Disney more money. He noticed that guests were leaving the Walt Disney World property and different points in the day for shopping and other experiences. How could they get the guests to stay on property and spend their money with Disney instead?
Walt Disney World Resort has long been a place associated with children. Families take their vacations to Magic Kingdom, field trips flood the parks, and spring break is heralded by thousands of teenagers and somethings escaping school. There is, of course, nothing wrong with this. But I have always believed that Disney Magic is for children of all ages — and, sometimes, that includes being a child at heart.
